How to Connect a Dishwasher to HomeAid HA500 Garbage Disposal

Typically, kitchen plumbing does not include a drain line for dishwashers. For this reason, dishwashers install under the counter top next to the sink cabinet, with a drain hose through the side of the cabinet. The dishwasher pumps discarded water and food particles through the hose and into the HomeAid garbage disposal. The drain system includes an air-gap fitting that prevents garbage disposal debris from backing up into the dishwasher. The fitting mounts on the back ledge of the sink and has connector nozzles for hoses below. After you install the garbage disposal, connecting the dishwasher is relatively easy.
1. Unplug the garbage disposal from the electrical outlet in the sink cabinet. If permanently wired to a circuit, turn off the disposal unit at the breaker panel.
2. Insert the tip of a screwdriver into the hose nozzle located above the larger drainpipe port on the side of the garbage disposal. Tap the end of the screwdriver with a light hammer and dislodge the knockout plug inside the nozzle. Remove the plug from the nozzle with needle-nose pliers.
3. Insert the threaded stem at the top of the air-gap fitting into the hole at the back of the sink from below. Put the provided rubber washer on the upper end of the stem and screw on the trim cap by hand. Hold the fitting from below and tighten the cap securely. Do not use a wrench or pliers to tighten the cap or you risk scratching the finish.
4. Rotate the air-gap fitting below the sink by hand, as necessary, so the angled nozzle points toward the garbage disposal.
5. Push one end of the provided garbage disposal drain hose onto the nozzle on the unit. Slide both of the provided hose clamps onto the other end of the hose. Fit the lower clamp onto the hose at the nozzle and tighten it with the screwdriver.
6. Cut the upper end of the hose to length, if necessary, with a utility knife so it fits onto the air-gap nozzle without a bend. Slide the other clamp up and around the upper end of the hose and tighten it securely.
7. Slide a 1-inch hose clamp onto the end of the dishwasher drain hose. Cut the hose to length, as necessary, so the end fits onto the vertical nozzle on the air-gap fitting without a bend or loop in the hose. Fit the end onto the vertical nozzle and secure it with the hose clamp.

Tip
For easier access to the area under the sink, remove the screws that secure the door hinges to the frame of the cabinet, and take off the doors beforehand. Reinstall the doors after connecting the hoses.
